One thing I’ve always had problems with is sleep, until recently! From suffering with restless legs, to a brain which doesn’t wish to shut off, to terrifying nightmares, everything that could be put in my path to keep me awake seemed to happen daily. These are the top 6 tips I’ve picked up to aid with a blissful sleep.
Now I’m not talking about listening to the latest Ministry Of Sound album or what ever it is you’re into, there’s specific music created to aid sleep. Trust me I know what you’re thinking, how on earth can listening to music help? Using nature sounds, meditation music or things like Tibetan singing bowls either in earphones or quietly through a speaker can help distract your brain and ease away unhelpful thoughts. It took me a while to get used to the music and to be able to switch off from it, but after a couple of nights I slept soundly!

2) Leave the phone alone!
This goes without saying. The light on your phone screen makes it trick your brain into thinking it’s daylight therefore making it impossible to shut down. Even with the blue light backgrounds most devices are now equipt with it still plays havoc with your eyes. If you know you’re going to be tempted, put it out of reach. This also transfers to other mobile devices such as tablets, games consoles etc.
3) The age old and most traditional trick
A hot bath
There’s nothing more relaxing than having a hot soak in the tub before bed, it’s my ultimate way to wind down after a busy day. Locking the door to the outside world and being at one with the bubbles! Bliss! What you don’t want to do is have over powering smells at this time of day as again it will reactivate your senses and rather than wind down you’ll end up becoming more alert. Opt for a calming scent such as lavender.

4) Eye Mask
Again this method does take some getting used to and you can guarantee it won’t stay on until morning however if there’s not total darkness in your bedroom than an eye mask may be your new best friend! Just don’t panic if it does stay on all night and you wake up in the morning to complete darkness! They are also perfect for to aid sleep when you are travelling especially if you’re sat next to a person with the personality of an owl who’s got their reading light glaring at everywhere but the book they’re reading.

5) Pillow Spray
My personal favourite is This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray I’ve been using it on and off since Christmas. It contains a blend of Camomile, Lavendar and Vetivert to aid restful sleep by relaxing your mind and body. It’s also incredibly easy to use simply spray a fine mist over your pillow before bedtime for the best night sleep!

6) Have a notebook beside your bed
Having a notebook or pen and paper by the side of your bed and writing down things that come into your head whilst your in bed can help dramatically. It helps rid your thoughts rather than it playing over and over in your mind. I also find doing my next days to do list the night before helps promote more restful sleep as I’m getting everything on to paper and it’s removing it from my current thoughts.
